Flyers 5K

It was an early start today but my alarm clock (below) had me up at 6 anyway (I had my alarm set for seven).

I was running in the Flyers Charities 5K Halloween Fun Run and Walk.  Fun it was!

The plan was to meet my friend at Broad & Locust at 8 and take the subway down to the sports complex area where the run was.  I broke out my new Claude Giroux (my favorite Flyer) t-shirt and orange socks.

We arrived in plenty of time to pick up our bibs and T-shirts.  We even took a look at Xfinity Live, which is a great entertainment venue around the stadiums.  It was perfect running weather cloudy and cool.  We decided at the start that it would be a fun run for us and stick together.  We started out slow but picked it up and really pushed the pace at the end.  We finished in 28:40.  Pretty good considering I have been running between 10:30-11:00 minute miles recently.  It was great to see everyone either in costume or dressed in their orange and black Flyers gear.  Peter Laviolette, the Flyers coach, and Darien Hatcher, former Flyers player, were on hand as well.  I think it was a very well put together event.  Great job Flyers Charities!  The best part of all was that it benefits some great causes.  I love a race with a cause.
